iYouth Conference 2014: Digital Badges for Learning in Libraries

During this workshop, Sean Fullerton will give a short presentation on Open Badges, what they are, and how they can be used to recognize the skills and knowledge ofchildren and youth.  The rest of the session will be an interactive workshop to consider why school and public libraries might want to use badges and to begin planning how you could design a badging program for youth at your library.

Sean Fullerton is a Ph.D. Student at the University of Washington Information School. He researches ways to help students and their parents, coaches, teachers, and mentors document learning from outside formal school settings. He is currently working with Dr. Katie Davis to investigate the effectiveness of digital badges and badging systems to motivate, recognize, and assess learning in after school programs. He is a former public school teacher, school technology coordinator, and teacher-librarian.
